William Roscoe Anderson; Jr. was an all-around, star athlete at Columbia Heights High School. He was awarded letters in football, baseball, basketball and tennis. He also played soccer. Anderson, an All State running back, was a member of the Columbia Heights undefeated team in 1929. His junior year, 1930, the team lost only once.
Anderson went on to participate in football, basketball and tennis during the year he attended Atlanta's Clark College. The Winston-Salem State University graduate was a member of the institution's first basketball team, serving as team captain in his second year there: He also played semi-pro football in 1934. Anderson's entire career has been devoted to sports and recreation. He recently retired from the Winston-Salem Recreation Department.
